DESIGN FOR SUSTAINABILITY - MERIT AWARD

"University of La Verne Arts and Communication Center"

Claremont Environmental Design Group, Inc.

The University of La Verne’s new Art and Communications Center is an inventive reuse of an historic citrus packing warehouse. Program elements were strategically arranged to minimize alterations to the exterior shell and accentuate the open, light-filled interior. The overall design and detailing highlight the building’s industrial heritage. The design team participated in SoCal Edison’s Savings by Design Program, resulting in energy savings 14% better than Title 24, despite high energy use functions like TV and Radio studios.
