A Virtual 3D Model of the project was used as a base to develop the construction documents. The project was on a fast pace, and design work was going on as the construction process began. The project web site was developed as a tool to inform the community, potential investors, tenants and the project team about the progress of the project.

Design:

Plaza Mexico, located in Lynwood, adjacent to the quadrant of Imperial Highway and Long Beach Boulevard adjoining the 105 freeway. When fully developed, the 36-acre site will have over 470,000 Sq. Ft. of retail, produce and markets, restaurants, and office space. The exterior spaces will have plazas, providing outdoor entertainment, sitting areas, fountains, and kiosks. The site plan has been developed with the idea of major tenants alongside many retail shops, providing the feel of a communal environment for the pedestrians. The main goal of the project is to utilize the site as an adaptable cultural center, bringing the ambiance of the rich culture of true Mexican pueblos.

Plaza Mexico’s site planning follows the basic principles of the ancient city of Monte Alban, and Oaxaca, which is located approximately 300 miles south of Mexico City; a North-South access was aligned with platform structures placed at each end. Plaza Mexico has an East-West access with structures known as the "Town Center" and the "Marketplace." This organization provides a spatial composition to create a series of ceremonial spaces, plazas, and courtyards defined within the mix of the center. The pueblo setting provides a sense of familiarity and closeness with the center. This is all mixed among fountains, lush landscaping, kiosks, and open plazas.

Plaza Mexico hopes to transform the City of Lynwood into a bustling and active city for all to enjoy. The City of Lynwood is one of Los Angeles’ poorest cities, and transforming Plaza Mexico into a tourist destination is a challenge in itself. The ornamentation and attention to details is an important element to bringing together all the distinct flavors of each Mexican town. Plaza Mexico is drawing much attention from Mexico, with support by the Mexican states. Aside from informational kiosks in the plaza, many cities in Mexico have made donations representing their interests and sponsorship.

Plaza Mexico brings into play both the theme from the city itself, and offers visitors a sense of familiarity with the themes from Mexico.
